The Transport Licensing Appeals Board (TLAB) has announced the immediate suspension of the Acacia Shuttle Sacco that plies Kisumu routes.

In a statement on Monday, April 28, the board noted that it had upheld the suspension after a recommendation by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).

The matatus from the sacco have since been ordered to cease operations immediately.

"The Board has upheld the suspension of Acacia Shuttle Sacco vehicles (E033/24), plying Kisumu routes as previously requested by NTSA. With immediate effect, they cease operation," TLAB noted.

Although TLAB did not reveal the reasons why the Sacco had been suspended, Acacia Shuttle Sacco had been among 121 Saccos suspended by NTSA in a list published on September 27, 2024.

The reasons for its dismissal had not been outlined on that list either. A subsequent appeal to the appeals board was mentioned in court on March 3.

Commuters of the Kisumu, Ndori, and Uyoma routes are set to experience inconveniences due to the failure of this appeal.

This is the latest Sacco that has faced the wrath of TLAB after Nairobi's super metro was suspended just a few weeks ago for contravening several regulations.

Super Metro, which plies several routes both inside and outside Nairobi, was ordered to cease operations immediately, the suspension lifted, and then suspended again.

On April 17, the SACCO announced that it had resumed operations after meeting regulations directed by NTSA.

"Super Metro Limited is thrilled to announce that we have successfully met and surpassed all compliance requirements set by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and the Transport Licensing Appeals Board (TLAB)," Super Metro announced.

Among the biggest demands issued to the Sacco by NTSA before resuming operations was for it to fire 269 drivers and retest 42 others.
