Hours after he was shot dead, videos of Kasipul Member of Parliament Charles Ong’ondo Were decrying that his life was in danger, have resurfaced.
MP Were met his death on Wednesday, April 30, after he was shot near the City Mortuary roundabout by suspected goons who were trailing him.
According to witnesses, the assailants—two in number—were on a motorbike when one of them alighted and shot the legislator at close range before fleeing the scene.
The motive behind his killing remains unclear, but chilling videos have resurfaced, showing the MP openly declaring that his life was in danger and naming those he claimed wanted him dead.
Many times, leaders come forward decrying that their lives are in danger, with their cries dismissed, and others alleging they are exaggerating. That was not the case for MP Were—he was not exaggerating, nor was he paranoid. The man knew he was living on borrowed time.
In one instance, the MP called on security officers in the area to provide him with protection, stating that he had received several warnings that he would be shot dead.
The MP revealed that several meetings had been held at night, during which plans were made to disrupt any events he attended, create tension and chaos, and then shoot him in the process.
''The people who are messing us here are serial thieves and we know them, they even had a meeting last night at 8 pm between the goons and MCAs, planning how they would take advantage of any event I attend to cause chaos and shoot me to death,'' the MP warned in one of the videos.
In another incident, the MP detailed how he was attacked on his way from a funeral. The road was blocked, and he was stopped from passing. Luckily, he had his security with him, who came to his rescue.
''This is not the first attack. Before the late fracas, I went to another funeral, and my entourage was blocked. The following day, I had gone to another funeral, and before I could even talk, one of the goons stated that I would not talk there, causing chaos,'' he warned in another chilling decree.
While offering his condolences to the family of the late lawmaker, MP Caleb Amisi disclosed a chilling conversation they had within Parliament precincts.
''I was with my colleague just this afternoon in parliament, chatted, laughed, and he told me I need a conversation with you, 'mambo si mazuri'. His exact words. Five hours later, he is no more. The news is shocking,'' Amisi revealed.
