Gikungu indicated that morning rains were expected in the Highland East counties of Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi and Nairobi.

The Kenya Met boss also projected downpour in counties within the Lake Victoria Basin and Rift Valley, including Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia and Uasin-Gishu.

Other counties expected to experience a similar weather pattern include parts of West Pokot, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori and Narok.

According to him, these regions would experience sunny intervals in the morning, followed by showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon, and at night.

Gikungu also clarified that the coastal counties of Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale, as well as parts of Tana River County, were expected to receive heavy downpours over the weekend.

The weatherman further revealed that May was expected to mark the peak of the long rains in the country, with Kenyans warned of the possibility of waterborne diseases.

While rainfall was expected in several parts of the country, Gikungu also cautioned residents living in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley to brace for very cold night-time temperatures.

He said that night temperatures in Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, and Nairobi were expected to drop to as low as 10°C.

Conversely, counties in the Coast, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya, as well as isolated areas in the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, were projected to experience very high daytime temperatures.

Gikungu disclosed that daytime temperatures would be a minimum of 30°C over the next five days.
