The Public Service Commission (PSC) on Saturday, May 3, exposed a jobs scam circulating on WhatsApp and urged unsuspecting Kenyans to stay alert over fake job offers shared on the social media platform.
Through a statement, PSC cautioned against falling victim to the con and warned Kenyans not to send money to individuals posing as PSC staff offering fake jobs.
“Beware of fake jobs circulating online, especially on WhatsApp. Kindly note that these are fraudsters posing as PSC staff demanding bribes for nonexistent jobs and promotions,” they stated.
“PSC recruitment is FREE, transparent, and merit-based,” the Commission further asserted.
The latest comes after a recent mass job advertisement by the PSC, where over 200 vacancies in the government were highlighted.
In a notice dated April 1, 2025, the PSC invited qualified Kenyans to apply for these positions.
The job vacancies spanned several state departments, including the National Treasury, Economic Planning, Immigration and Citizen Services, Correctional Services, and Foreign Affairs.
There were also openings in Broadcasting and Telecommunications, Tourism, Wildlife, and the Blue Economy. Additional vacancies are available in Fisheries, Shipping and Maritime, as well as in the Gender and Technical & Vocational Education Training departments.
Other departments with job openings include Public Works, Housing and Urban Development, and Lands and Physical Planning. Opportunities also exist in the Energy, Irrigation, Transport, and Parliamentary Affairs departments.
Interested and qualified individuals were encouraged to submit their applications online through the Commission’s website or jobs portal no later than April 22, 2025, by 5 PM.
Meanwhile, PSC urged job hopefuls to conduct proper due diligence before they fell prey to any fraudulent job practices by the scammers.
“Verify all job postings on our website or the official Commission’s social media platforms. Report scams to our official complaint email or law enforcement. Stay vigilant!”
