A key suspect in the murder of Kasipul Member of Parliament (MP) Charles Ong'ondo Were has been arrested by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
During the Sunday morning arrest in Nairobi, a vehicle suspected of having been used in the getaway was also seized.
The car had been captured on security cameras near Parliament Building, City Hall Way, Wabera Street, Kenyatta Avenue, Jakaya Kikwete Road, Argwings Kodhek Road and Valley Road.
An accomplice to the shooting, who is still at large, is also being pursued by the DCI detectives.
This breakthrough comes just days after the MP was shot dead along Ngong Road on Wednesday night by a suspect on a motorcycle at a red light.
CCTV footage recovered during the investigation recounted the last moments of the MP before he was assassinated near City Mortuary roundabout by suspected gunmen who were trailing him.
The MP is said to have left Parliament Buildings at around 7pm in the company of his bodyguard and driver, heading to City Hall Way before joining Wabera Street.
At Wabera Street, the footage captured a man clad in a hoodie and carrying a bag monitoring the movement of the MP's car.
The MP's bodyguard stopped the car, got out of the vehicle, and walked into a nearby M-Pesa shop, where he deposited Ksh20,000 on behalf of his boss.
After leaving Wabera Street, the team headed towards Kenyatta Avenue but changed the route to avoid traffic, using Ralph Bunche Road instead.
The vehicle was also captured at Argwings Kodhek Road and later at Valley Road, where his car stopped at traffic.
Moments later, the suspect disembarked from the motorcycle that was trailing the MP and shot him four times at close range. He died from gunshot wounds to his chest and hands.
