KeNHA to Hear Land Compensation Claims for Dualling Mombasa-Mariakani Road From May 20

The Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) has announced that it intends to acquire more land for the dualling of the Mombasa-Mariakani Road.

In a notice issued in the Kenya Gazette issue of April 30, the authority issued an update on the pieces of land they were pursuing, including the deletion of the previously listed MN/V/2028, MN/V/412R, MN/V/3070 and MN/V/1884, totalling about 13 acres.

"The National Land Commission intends to acquire additional parcels of land on behalf of the Kenya National Highways Authority for the dualling of Mombasa–Mariakani (A109) Road," part of the notice read.

Additionally, KeNHA also modified the acquisition notice of four more land parcels, totalling 7.5 acres, which are MN/V/2856, MN/V/2857, MN/V/2804, and MN/V/2858.

Five more land parcels, MN/VI/4786 (MN/VI/2842/2/4), MN/VI/4786 (MN/VI/2842/2/2), MN/V/2689, MN/V/2379 and MN/V/2626, amounting to about 5.7 acres, were also listed as corrigendum or as having been fully corrected.

Those who wish to inspect the parcels of land listed have been encouraged to do so at the Ministry of Lands headquarters at Ardhi House, Nairobi.

"Plans for the affected land may be inspected during office hours at the office of the National Land Commission, Ardhi House, 3rd Floor, Room 305, 1st Ngong Avenue, Nairobi, and at the National Land Commission’s County Co-ordinator’s Office in Mombasa County," the statement added.

In the same gazette notice, KeNHA announced that the hearing of claims laid on the mentioned land would be conducted later this month on different dates and locations.

"The National Land Commission on behalf of Kenya National Highways Authority gives notice of the hearing of claims to compensation for interested parties in the land required for the dualling of Mombasa–Mariakani (A109) Road shall be held on the dates and places as shown below," the statement read.

At the Changamwe Chief’s Office on Tuesday, May 20, from 10.00am, a hearing will be held for claims of the title numbers MN/VI/4786 (MN/VI/2842/2/4) and MN/VI/4786 (MN/VI/2842/2/2).

On Wednesday, May 21, from 10.00am, the hearing for land title MN/V/2379 will be heard at the Miritini Chief's Office.

Lastly, the hearing for land titles MN/V/2856, MN/V/2857, MN/V/2804, MN/V/2858, MN/V/2689 and MN/V/2626 at the Rabai Chief's Office is on Thursday, May 22, at 10.00 am.

Meanwhile, members of the public willing to make a claim on the listed land have been urged to make a written inquiry to the Kenya Lands Commission offices in Nairobi or Mombasa.

"Every person interested in the affected land is required to deliver to the National Land Commission on or before the day of the inquiry a written claim to compensation, a copy of an identity card (ID), and Personal Identification No. (PIN), land ownership documents and bank account details to the Commission offices, Ardhi House, 3rd Floor, Room 305, 1st Ngong Avenue, Nairobi, and at the National Land Commission Office in Mombasa County," the notice concluded.
