Former Senior Economic Adviser to the President, Moses Kuria, has slammed the Health Cabinet Secretary, Aden Duale, for claiming that the citizenship of the Mediheal owner, Swarup Mishra, might be revoked for the alleged organ trafficking at his facility.
In a statement on his official X account on Monday, August 4, Kuria claimed that the Health CS, whom he didn't directly mention, has no constitutional authority to issue such statements.
Furthermore, Kuria further warned that such a statement risks eroding investors' confidence, which will in turn cripple the country's economy and deny youths jobs.
"Sometimes I wonder. When a Senior government official who is not in charge of immigration says we will cancel citizenship and deport so-and-so, do we ponder to think what investors will think of our country?" Kuria stated.
"Are we that unorthodox? What of investors' confidence? What of due process? What of our credit rating? At this rate, from where shall we get jobs for these children of ours? Gracious Lord, hear us," he added.
Speaking on Friday, August 1, Duale claimed that the independent committee dispatched to Mediheal to investigate the alleged organ trafficking had gathered evidence that showed the hospital was involved in unlawful activities. Duale noted that the government will not hesitate to take decisive action against Mishra.
In addition to revocation of citizenship, the former Kesses MP risks being deported and prosecuted, according to the Health CS.
Duale also claimed that Mishra attempted to compromise the investigations through intimidation and bribery.
“In terms of young people who had their kidneys removed, some of them have disappeared. We have evidence. Some of them were paid. You cannot come to our country 20 years ago with a bag, make money, sell our organs, become an MP, develop a culture of impunity, and then come here and threaten us.” Duale said.
“If it means us revoking that citizenship, because your citizenship is not by birth, we will revoke the citizenship, close your hospitals, and we will deport you,” he added.
In its recommendations, the investigative committee recommended the apprehension and prosecution of Mishra for alleged involvement in organ trafficking.
The 13-member task force linked the former MP to massive irregularities, claiming that he was part of an international organ trafficking syndicate operating within the hospital.
