Motorists traversing the busy Nakuru-Eldoret highway will have to contend with slow traffic after a multi-vehicle pile-up involving a matatu, a trailer, and a lorry happened at Equator in the Mumberes area of the highway.

In images seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the matatu, registered to Climax Coaches Sacco, was seen stuck on the side of the road while a truck had its front cabin destroyed.

Although the number of casualties from the tragedy has yet to be confirmed, unverified reports from social media reveal that there are.

Similar reports have revealed that ambulance rescue teams and police are at the scene conducting rescue operations.

Videos seen by Kenyans.co.ke also paint a picture of a long traffic snarl-up caused by the pile-up as motorists try to snake through the melee.

Meanwhile, bystanders were also spotted gathering at the wreck scene, as is often the norm.

Similar incidents on the busy highway have led to several people losing their lives, especially on the notorious Salgaa, a blackspot that has long been a challenge to motorists on the highway.

It comes just a few hours after another similar unfortunate incident occurred along the busy Kitale-Lodwar highway on Sunday morning.

A TurkRift Shuttle ferrying football players from a league match collided with another vehicle at Karoge Centre in Turkana South.

Although no casualties were reported, several players were injured, with a number of them losing consciousness from the impact of the wreckage.

While confirming the incident, the club released a statement reading, "We regret to inform you with sorrow that some of our players have been involved in a road tragedy, a clash between two vehicles."

"A few of them are currently unconscious, but we thank God there have been no casualties. They have all been rushed to the hospital and are receiving the necessary medical attention."
