Homa Bay Governor, Gladys Wanga, has issued a stern warning to Kenyans inciting or planning to cause chaos during the burial of Kasipul Member of Parliament Charles Were.
Addressing members of the pubic on Tuesday morning, Wanga called for a peaceful, dignified, and befitting send-off for Were, whose burial is scheduled to take place on Friday, May 9.
In a heartfelt appeal, the vocal governor urged Homa Bay residents to remain calm, patient and peaceful as investigations into the murder of the MP progressed.
Wanga also commended President William Ruto for his firm directive, demanding the immediate investigation and arrest of the deceased lawmaker's killers.
"This is a sad, difficult and trying time for Homa Bay following the fatal shooting of Hon. Charles Were. We have lost a beloved son of our soil, and mourn we must, but I call on all of us to exercise restraint as we continue to mourn," Wanga said.
"We appreciate the firm directions given by the President to expedite the investigations and bring the culprits to book. We take note of the progress and arrests made and look forward to an outcome of the matter," she added.
Were will be laid to rest this coming Friday, following an autopsy that revealed his cause of death. According to Chief Government Pathologist, Johannsen Oduor, Were died of excessive bleeding as a result of five gunshot wounds.
Oduor, while addressing the press on Monday noon, revealed that the five gunshots included two entry wounds on the left forearm, two on the left side of the chest and one lodged in the spine.
Investigations by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) officers led to the arrest of four suspects who were yesterday arraigned at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) law court.
Following their arraignment, the court granted a 30-day detention order to allow the homicide detectives to complete their investigations with each suspect to be detained in separate police stations within Nairobi.
"Specialised units, including homicide and forensic teams, are working diligently to uncover all aspects of the crime, including the motive, to ensure a comprehensive investigation," the DCI announced.
Meanwhile, a delegation of MPs visited Were's residence in Homa Bay on Saturday, May 3, to coordinate with local teams and ensure the lawmaker's seamless burial.
