Amidst escalating economic anxieties, residents of the Bahraini Centre engaged in a frantic scramble on Wednesday afternoon, seizing bags of maize flour from an overturned lorry.
The lorry had overturned near the centre along the Eldoret-Kitali Highway, blocking the road.
In a video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the residents were captured running from the site with bales of the looted maize flour plopped on their backs, and others even used motorbikes.
This is not unlike what Kenyans are used to during such spills, with similar occurrences being reported whenever a similar spill happens.
Just two weeks ago, Kenyans were captured on camera looting cement from another overturned lorry at Sagana Bridge in Kirinyaga County.
In images shared, some of the Kenyans were even captured standing atop the overturned vehicle, snatching the coveted commodity still stuck inside.
Others snatched the bags spread on the highway, as others also used motorbikes in this scene as well, to ferry the heavy bags.
In another incident a few years ago, a trailer driver watched helplessly as looters stole cartons of sodas from his trailer, which had overturned along Eastern Bypass Road, resulting in massive traffic.
Despite several warnings of hidden dangers like the possibility of fuel leaks that could result in explosions, leading to casualties and fatal injuries, people remain oblivious to these risks and focus on looting.
In fact, even when the overturned vehicle is an oil tanker, Kenyans still always scramble to fetch the spilt commodity.
On April 29, an oil tanker crashed along the Southern Bypass at Kibera after the front tyre on the driver's side burst.
According to witnesses, the oil tanker lost control along the busy highway when the tyre burst and skidded across the road, crashing onto a roadside bank.
In that case, however, Kenyans were seen helping the injured into a nearby ambulance instead of fetching the leaking oil.
