Ballistics has confirmed that one of the two guns recovered from the residence of one of the suspects linked to the murder of Kasipul Member of Parliament, Charles Ong'ondo Were, shot the slain MP last week.

According to the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, the gun used in the murder of Were was linked to several other crimes.

Speaking during a press briefing on Thursday morning, the IG stated that the weapon had been used in a series of violent robberies in Nairobi and Kiambu counties.

"Today, I stand before you with significant findings from comprehensive ballistic investigations regarding the tragic demise of Charles Were. The ballistic report we have received unequivocally links the Sarsilmaz pistol recovered from the residence of one of the suspects to the fatal shots that took his life," IG Kanja stated.

"This critical piece of evidence not only identifies the weapon used in this heinous act, but also reveals its involvement in a series of other criminal activities. Specifically, the same firearm has been implicated in three separate robbery offences across Nairobi and Kiambu counties, with the most recent crime happening on April 26."

Kanja further reiterated the National Police Service's (NPS) commitment to solving the case, urging Kenyans to provide information pertaining to the investigations in order to reach a quick resolution.

On May 7, DCI released a statement, reporting the arrest of two more suspects in the murder of the slain MP, and the recovery of two pistols— a Retay Falcon and a Sarsilmaz— alongside nine rounds of 9mm calibre ammunition.

A bag and footwear consistent with those worn by one of the suspects at the scene were also recovered in the haul. All items were submitted for forensic analysis, which has since connected one of the guns to the murder.

The arrests brought to 10 the total number of suspects arrested in connection with the murder that took place on Wednesday evening, April 30.

While leaving Parliament on that Wednesday evening, MP Were was shot five times when his car stopped in traffic along Ngong Road near City Mortuary roundabout.

CCTV footage recovered by investigators tracked a vehicle trailing the MP's route through Wabera Street, Kenyatta Avenue, Ralph Bunche Road, Argwings Kodhek Road, until his car stopped on Valley Road. Moments later, a pillion passenger on a nearby motorbike jumped up and shot the MP in his chest and hand before fleeing.

The MP's driver and bodyguard have since been taken in as persons of interest on suspicion of aiding in the murder. Others arrested in the case are members of an Eastleigh gang.

Businessman Philip Nahashon Aroko, wanted in connection with the murder of Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were, also surrendered to Gigiri Police Station on Wednesday night.
