Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has announced three new sub-regions in Nairobi as part of the government's efforts to improve service delivery in the city.

In a gazette notice dated Thursday, November 13, Murkomen announced the creation of Nairobi North, Nairobi East, and Nairobi West Service Delivery Coordination Units.

He attributed the creation of the three sub-regions to the rapidly increasing population within Nairobi County, which he said is now estimated at more than five million.

As part of the restructure, Murkomen promoted Rose Wanjiru Chege, Patrick Simiyu Werre and Simon Odhiambo Osumba, appointing them to head the new sub-regions of Nairobi West, East and North, respectively.

As part of ongoing efforts to streamline operations within the National Government Administration, Murkomen also announced the promotion of six officers to the rank of County Commissioner.

He promoted Joseph Mwangi Wamuti (Tana River), Linda Adhiambo Okola (Taita Taveta), David Ntawuasa Saruni (West Pokot), Michael Yator (Kajiado), Jeremiah Mwai Gicheru (Kericho) and Peter Mwangi Maina (Vihiga).

Murkomen further revealed that his Ministry had also transferred serving County commissioners to various new stations, taking into consideration their strengths and experiences.

According to the CS, the latest move is part of the government's approach in addressing the various security and service delivery concerns raised by Kenyans during the recent Jukwaa la Usalama public forums.

Murkomen added that the changes take effect immediately, with the promoted Commissioners expected to take over their new roles right away.

"The changes take effect with immediate effect. Congratulations and Godspeed to the promoted officials as you embark on your new roles," the CS affirmed.

"We are committed to bringing services closer to wananchi through deliberate decentralisation and efficiency enhancement," Murkomen declared, reiterating the government's commitment to improving service delivery to Kenyans.

Meanwhile, the changes come amid growing security demands in different parts of the country, even as the country fast approaches the 2027 general elections.
