The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has apprehended three suspects who stormed a company based in Athi-River on February 23 and terrorised them before robbing the facility.

According to a report by the DCI on Monday, May 12, three were arrested following a probe launched immediately after the incident.

The three are said to have been among a gang of five who raided the facility armed with crude weapons and rounded up workers, assaulted them, and held them hostage.

During the encounter, the employees were left battered and bound as the robbers took off with several appliances from the scene.

They stole a fridge, a microwave, two lorry batteries, two backloader tractor batteries, and a generator, which they loaded into a waiting pickup before making their escape.

Ultimately, Athi River detectives took on the painstaking investigation and followed forensic clues that led to the ringleader's rented house in Kamulu.

During his arrest, the detectives recovered a Beretta pistol, a pocket phone, beige and green tactical trousers, six assorted SIM cards, and other incriminating items.

The suspect then led the detectives to Gimu in Athi-River, where two of his accomplices were apprehended. The other two are still on the run, with a manhunt ongoing to catch them.

The three are currently in police custody, undergoing processing pending arraignment. The recovered items have also been securely detained as exhibits in the case.

This comes just a few weeks after another workplace robbery carried out a heist at a warehouse in Embakasi over the Easter holiday, taking off with Ksh17.6 million worth of electronics.

A subsequent police investigation uncovered that the facility had been broken into by a group of individuals armed with crude weapons, who raided two godowns at a business park and took off with several electronics, including televisions and CCTV servers.

Among the stolen items were 363 pieces of 43-inch Hisense TVs, 20 pieces of 20-inch HB TVs, 11 sets of HS 218 soundbars, four HP laptops, two mobile phones, desktop computers, school bags, spare parts, and CCTV servers.
