The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) is set to conduct a repeat of grassroots elections in Tana River and Mombasa counties this week.
In a statement shared on Tuesday, May 13, the party said that the elections will be conducted in the two counties on Saturday, May 17, from 9am to 3pm.
The party did not, however, state the exact reason as to why it will conduct repeat elections in the two counties and said that the decision was made 'after review of the initial exercise'.
"The National Elections Board of the UDA hereby issues a notice of repeat Grassroots Elections to all party members in Tana River and Mombasa Counties," the notice stated.
"Following the review of the initial exercise, the National Elections Board has resolved to conduct a repeat of the Grassroots Elections on 17th May 2025 from 9am to 3pm in Tana River and Mombasa," it added.
In Tana River County, the elections will be conducted in 10 polling centres in Garsen Central ward, 17 polling stations in Garsen North ward, 10 polling stations in Garsen South ward, and 14 polling stations in Garsen West ward.
The Kipini East Ward will host the elections in eight polling stations, while the Kipini West Ward will hold the elections in 15 polling stations.
The Chewele ward will hold the elections in six polling stations, Hirimani ward in four polling stations, and Madogo and Sala wards in five polling stations each, while the Kinakomba and Wayu wards will hold the elections in two and three polling stations, respectively.
In Mombasa county, the Mji wa Kale/Makadara ward will host the elections at the Kenya School of Government and Serani Primary school, the Majengo ward, the elections will be at Koblenz hall, Tononoka ward, they will be hosted in Buxton Estate Hall, while the Port Reitz ward will host the elections in Bomu Secondary school.
The announcement comes a day after the party officially opened its online portal for participants to register for the phase two ward-level grassroots elections in 22 counties, including Bungoma, Garissa, Isiolo, Kajiado, Mandera, Marsabit, Makueni, Migori, Kilifi, Kisii, Kisumu, Kitui, Kwale, Lamu, Machakos, Mombasa, Nyamira, Siaya, Taita Taveta, Tana River, Turkana, and Wajir.
In a statement on Thursday, May 8, the ruling party said that the portal, which was opened on Wednesday, May 7, will be closed on Friday, May 16.
"The National Elections Board of UDA wishes to inform all Polling Centre Committee officials and eligible participants that the online registration portal for the upcoming Phase II Ward-level grassroots elections will be open from May 7 and will close on May 16," the notice read.
