Siaya Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) have dismissed claims that they turned down President William Ruto's State House invitation.

Speaking to the press on Tuesday, May 13, the county assembly members clarified that the meeting with the Head of State was postponed due to Governor James Orengo's absence.

Led by the Majority Leader in the County Assembly, Richard Otieno, the leaders disclosed that the meeting was initially scheduled for Wednesday, May 14, but was pushed forward to next week to await the governor, who is currently abroad.

Otieno's sentiments were backed by other MCAs, who reiterated their preparedness to meet the President at State House once Orengo returns to Kenya.

"Some of our county's top leadership officials were still away, and we wanted it to be an all-inclusive trip, and that is why we had to wait for the others to come back, and that is why the meeting was postponed," Otieno told journalists.

According to Central Gem MCA Madingu, they received the invitation letter on Monday, May 12, from County Senator Oburu Odinga, who shared it with them on behalf of State House.

"The top leaders within the county were the ones who initially received the invitation and later informed us about the planned meeting with the President," said North Ugenya MCA Benard Adala.

"We were informed about the State House meeting yesterday. When we enquired about the details of the planned meeting, we were told that the invitation was sent to us through our Senator, Dr Oburu Odinga," Madingu reiterated.

During the presser, the county assembly members also clarified claims of planning to impeach Governor Orengo over his controversial political stance.

Madingu, while addressing the matter, refuted reports circulating on social media platforms purporting that Siaya MCAs tabled a motion to impeach Orengo.

"These impeachment rumours I have heard that the MCAs are planning to impeach our governor, what has the governor done wrong to deserve impeachment?" said Madingu.

Orengo, who is one of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's closest allies, has been a strong critic of the latter's political union with Ruto, a factor that has placed him on the receiving end.
