Woman Drags Ruto During Affordable Housing Event in Kibera

A dramatic moment involving President William Ruto unfolded after a woman appeared to pull him in an incident that could have proved chaotic.

Footage obtained online by Kenyans.co.ke shows the woman reaching out to greet President Ruto shortly after he arrived at a crowded event in Kibera on Friday, May 23.

As the woman stretched out her hand to greet him, one of Ruto’s bodyguards quickly stepped in and tried to push her away.

During that moment, the woman had not let go of the President’s hand, causing him to lose balance.

The President was walking through the crowd, surrounded by his security team and Lang'ata Member of Parliament Phelix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o.

In the video, President Ruto can be seen holding Jalang’o’s back to steady himself and avoid falling.

Despite the Incident, President William Ruto smiled and called the woman back from the crowd, and shook her hand.

The bodyguard, after the woman's second handshake with President Ruto, pushed her back to the crowd.

Ruto, who was at the launch of the Kibera affordable housing, announced his plans to transform Kibera in Nairobi from a slum into a modern estate for the betterment of thousands of residents.

The Kibera Soweto Affordable Housing project consists of 4600 units, where Ruto announced that 25,000 units will be built in Kibera.

The president added that over 11,000 residents participating in the affordable program would be the first beneficiaries of the new house project

"The Kibera Informal settlement eradication is one of our more than 200 affordable housing projects we are building to deliver the change that Kenyans expect and deserve," Ruto said.
