Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi, who has been missing since Friday, is thought to be in the custody of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), according to his lawyer, Steven Mbugua.
Speaking on Sunday, Mbugua revealed that Koimburi's apprehension was a breach of court orders that barred the authorities from apprehending the legislator.
"It is disheartening that the Kenya Kwanza Government has decided to disregard all the court orders that the High Court of Kiambu gave in case number 28 of 2025, where Justice Muchira ordered that no one touch George Koimburi until the case is mentioned next month," he stated.
"The MP could not make it here because yesterday, un-uniformed people who did not identify themselves went after him, and since then, we do not know the whereabouts of the MP."
He further added that no official communication had been made confirming the MP's apprehension or his whereabouts, demanding that police officers follow the rule of law and avoid arbitrary apprehensions.
Flanking the lawyer were members of the public from the Juja Constituency who demanded the release of Koimburi, declaring, "No Koimburi, no peace."
This is not the first time Juja has been apprehended in similar circumstances.
On February 18, the lawmaker had been intercepted by DCI detectives on his way to Parliament and taken to the DCI headquarters without clear communication of the reason for the detainment.
The apprehension had come just two days after the MP made damning claims that the Kenya Kwanza government had used Ksh13 million to campaign for Raila Odinga's African Union chairmanship position.
"Kenyans are worried after witnessing public funds being poorly utilised to bribe individuals so that they can vote in Raila Amollo Odinga as the new chairman for the AU in Addis Ababa. It is such a shame," Koimburi stated in a church service.
During his arraignment, Juja MP George Koimburi was charged with forging academic certificates, with no mention of his remarks on the AU campaign.
While addressing the press outside the Kiambu Law Courts, a commotion broke out, and Koimburi ran away from the detectives before hopping onto a motorbike to flee the detectives attempting to reapprehend him.
