Juja MP George Koimburi, who was allegedly seized after a church service on Sunday, has been found dumped at Jacaranda Coffee Plantation in the Kibichoi area of Ruirua coffee farm in Kiambu County.
His family says his life is now in danger after disturbing videos surfaced showing him in visible distress and writhing in pain.
The legislator's family has confirmed that he is currently being treated at a hospital near Ruiru town.
Koimburi was reportedly captured by unknown individuals on the afternoon of Sunday, May 25, during a church service in full view of the congregation, who watched in shock as he was bundled into a Subaru vehicle. He later resurfaced at Full Gospel Church in Mugutha, Kiambu County, days after going missing.
His wife reportedly sustained injuries while trying to prevent the seizure, according to Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang'wa.
Speaking exclusively to Kenyans.co.ke, Senator Thang'wa, a close ally of Koimburi, confirmed the new developments, adding that a plot to nab the lawmaker was in motion from last week.
"They have been trailing him since last week when he was giving out bursaries," Senator Thang'wa said. "It was by sheer luck that he escaped on a motorbike," he added.
According to Citizen TV, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has denied any involvement in the abduction of the MP, though it confirmed that Koimburi had been sought since Friday in connection with alleged land fraud and misuse of Constituency Development Funds (CDF).
Sunday's seizure came just hours after Koimburi resurfaced, following earlier reports of his disappearance.
According to Thang'wa, while initial reports on Friday suggested Koimburi had been kidnapped, the lawmaker had managed to escape and gone into hiding. His whereabouts remained unknown until he appeared at the Full Gospel Church in Mugutha on Sunday.
In February this year, Koimburi was intercepted by DCI detectives on his way to Parliament over remarks he had made regarding the African Union Commission chairperson elections details, where Kenya was positioning itself as a frontrunner.
Koimburi made damning claims during a church service, accusing the government of spending over Ksh13 billion of taxpayers' money to woo African presidents to support former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s bid for the AUC chairpersonship.
