Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has revealed the opposition's plans to convene an emergency meeting to discuss the 'state of the nation' after the alleged forced dissapearance of Juja MP George Koimburi.

In a statement on Monday, May 26, Kalonzo said they are planning to meet on Tuesday, May 27, to discuss their next course of action amid what he termed as a worrying pattern by the government.

“The Opposition is convening tomorrow to assess the current state of political intimidation and intimidation in the country by the Kenya Kwanza regime,” Kalonzo said.

His remarks came in the wake of new developments regarding Koimburi, who was allegedly abducted on Sunday in full glare of a congregation during a church service.

Barely 24 hours after Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang'wa reported that the lawmaker was forcefully bundled into a Subaru by unknown individuals, Koimburi was found allegedly dumped at Jacaranda Coffee Plantation in the Kibichoi area of Ruiru, Kiambu County.

Videos of Koimburi have since emerged, depicting harrowing scenes as the MP appeared to be in pain, raising concerns of possible torture in the hours leading up to his discovery. He has since been rushed to Karen Hospital.

Kalonzo condemned the alleged forced disappearance, warning that such incidents, especially when they happen to a parliamentarian, were a strong indicator that no one was safe.

He added, “If an MP who is entitled to security gets abducted in broad daylight, it means Kenyans are on their own,” he said.

It remains unclear who will be present at Kalonzo's said meeting, but it is highly likely the convention will feature the likes of People's Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua -  two of Kenya Kwanza's fiercest critics.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has denied any involvement in the dissapearance of the MP, with reports suggesting the lawmaker staged his disappearance.

The DCI, however, confirmed that Koimburi had been sought after since Friday in connection with alleged land fraud and misuse of Constituency Development Funds (CDF).

Koimburi is one of several government critics who have come under scrutiny with the law, with his woes coming just days after Trans-Nzoia governor George Natembeya was apprehended and subsequently released on a Ksh1 million bond or a cash bail of Ksh500,000 after being charged with graft.
