The planned construction of the Nairobi-Mombasa expressway is expected to generate billions of shillings in revenue once it is completed, according to a US investment company.

Everstrong Capital, through its Senior Advisor Kyle McCarter, announced that upon completion, the 440-kilometre six-lane highway would generate up to Ksh1 trillion in long-term revenue.

In a statement on Wednesday, May 28, McCarter termed the project, which would be implemented under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP), as the most effective, efficient, impactful, and future-focused project.

"For the Government of Kenya, it means access to global financing without burdening public coffers, the creation of thousands of new jobs, and an anticipated Ksh1 trillion in long-term revenue," McCarter told stakeholders.

"This is what an effective public-private partnership looks like: efficient, impactful, and future-focused. Kenya is raising the bar for infrastructure development," he added.

In his speech, the former US Ambassador to Kenya commended the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) for accepting the feasibility study report that Everstrong Capital submitted to it in April this year.

According to him, the 2300-page feasibility study report, which details several aspects of the project implementation process, was the most detailed and transparent feasibility study ever submitted to KeNHA.

"Thanks to the most detailed and transparent feasibility study ever submitted to KeNHA, the Usahihi Expressway has been declared investment-ready and execution-worthy," he said.

The latest announcement comes a month after McCarter said that the construction of the Ksh464 billion ($3.6 billion) expressway linking two of the country's largest cities would begin in the first quarter of 2026.

Speaking moments after meeting former Prime Minister Raila Odinga on April 26, Everstrong Capital's Senior Advisor disclosed the significant economic impact the highway would have on the country and the wider East African region.

"Update on delivery: submitting feasibility study in May, looking for on-time approval from Kenha and PPP, financial close by end of year and construction beginning Q1 2026," McCarter stated.

Upon its completion, the expressway is expected to be one of the largest toll roads in Africa, featuring wildlife corridors, electric vehicle charging and renewable energy infrastructure.
