UDA, ODM to Receive Over Half of Ksh1.14 Billion in Political Parties' Funding

President William Ruto's United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and Raila Odinga's Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) are set to receive the largest share of the Political Party Funding (PPF) in the revised allocation.

According to a gazette notice dated June 5, 2025, the Registrar of Political Parties, Ann Nderitu, said that out of the Ksh1.14 billion allocated for political party funding this year, UDA will receive Ksh480,290,411, while the ODM  will receive Ksh256,558,712.

The Jubilee Party, which was once the ruling party under former President Uhuru Kenyatta, will receive the third-largest share of PPF of Ksh112,530,209.

According to Nderitu, the funds, which are critical to maintaining political parties' operations, including grassroots mobilisation and political campaigns, will be disbursed quarterly by the National Treasury.

"IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by sections 23, 25 and 34 (b) of the Political Parties Act (Cap. 7D) and Regulation 6 (c) of the Political Parties (Funding) Regulations 2019, the Registrar of Political Parties gives notice that the Political Parties Fund (PPF) faced a budget cut during the Supplementary Estimates No. II of Financial Year 2024/25, which has necessitated a review of the distribution of the Fund," the notice read.

This year, Kalonzo Musyoka's Wiper Democratic Movement is set to pocket Ksh60,101,143, while Eugene Wamalwa's Democratic Action Party-Kenya (DAP-K) is set to receive Ksh26,333,970.

The United Democratic Movement (UDM) will receive Ksh22,372,524, while the National Assembly speaker, Moses Wetang'ula's party, Forum for Restoration of Democracy (FORD-Kenya), will receive Ksh21,520,978.

Gideon Moi's Kenya National African Union (KANU) is set to receive Ksh20,005,804, while the Devolution Empowerment Party (DEP) is set to receive Ksh11,467,211.

The Maendeleo Chap Chap Party (MCCP) is set to pocket Ksh10,546,046 while the  Pamoja African Alliance (PAA) has been allocated Ksh9,571,671.

The Service Party (TSP) has been allocated Ksh8,782,483, while the Movement for Democracy and Growth Party (MDG) will pocket Ksh8,157,856 this year.

The Kenya Union Party (KUP)  will be given  Ksh7,909,603, the United Party of Independence (UPIA) Ksh7,587,411, and the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) will receive Ksh7,220,176.

Martha Karua's People's Liberation Party (PLP) is set to pocket Ksh6.3 million, the Chama cha Mashinani (CCM) 6,753,489, and the Tujibebe Wakenya Party (JIBEBE) will receive Ksh6.3 million.

Chama Cha Kazi (KAZI) party will receive Ksh5.4 million, Muungano Party (MP) Ksh5.61 million, and the United Democratic Party (UDP) will receive Ksh4.47 million.

The Kenya National Congress (KNC) will pocket Ksh1,541,673, the Party of National Unity (PNU) Ksh3,712,267, the Kenya Social Congress (KSC) Ksh1.01 million, while the National Rainbow Coalition (NARC) will receive Ksh4.3 million.

Jimmy Wanjigi's Safina Party is set to go home with Ksh2,612,379, the National Agenda Party of Kenya (NAP-K) will receive Ksh1,861,403, and the Federal Party of Kenya (FPK) has been allocated Ksh1,046,902 this year.

The Ubuntu People's Forum (UPF) is set to pocket Ksh1,663,726, while the  National Reconstruction Alliance (NRA) will receive Ksh2,829,816.

The Party of Independent Candidate (PICK) has been allocated Ksh731,617, the Kenya African Democratic Union-Asili (KADU-ASILI) Ksh399,327, and the Communist Party of Kenya (CPK) will receive Ksh871,529.

The Shirikisho Party of Kenya (SPK) has been allocated Ksh571,650, the People's Trust Party (PTP) will receive Ksh701,332, the Justice and Freedom Party of Kenya (JFP) Ksh230,494, the Grand Dream Development Party (GDDP) Ksh388,337, the Mabadiliko Party of Kenya (MAPK) Ksh531,042,  and lastly, the Green Thinking Action Party (GTAP) will pocket Ksh484,831.
