Two people have been confirmed dead following a road accident along Kiambu Road on the morning of Monday, June 9.

The accident, which occurred near AAR Hospital, saw the matatu lose control before veering off the road, leaving scores injured in the process.

According to reports reaching Kenyans.co.ke, the accident, which involved a PSV attached to Metrotrans Sacco, happened on the stretch towards the DCI headquarters.

Medical personnel from AAR were immediately deployed at the scene to assist with the injured passengers as a huge crowd gathered around the mangled vehicle.

Images and videos depict a worrying scene, as the matatu is seen lying on its side, an indication that the driver completely lost control of the vehicle in the build-up to the accident.

Notably, the matatus' rear window was missing, possibly shattered or removed by survivors and bystanders to facilitate rescue efforts.

While it remains unclear what caused the crash, Kiambu Road, particularly the area from DCI headquarters towards Karura Forest, is a hot spot for accidents.

Motorists are often advised to exercise caution when driving around this area, as the road features both winding sections and a dangerously steep slope, which heightens the risk of fatal accidents in the event of careless driving.

In a separate and possibly related incident, there was a heavy police presence near Ridgeways along Kiambu Road on Monday after locals lit bonfires along the road in protest.

It's unclear whether the protests and the accident are connected, but both incidents contributed to widespread delays and anxiety along the busy road.

This was the second fatal road accident involving a PSV in less than 24 hours, coming after another harrowing incident in Keroka, which saw a van collide with two motorcycles.

According to witnesses, the crash occurred around 11am along a dangerously steep slope between Ichuni and Keroka town.

The Nairobi-bound matatu had picked up several passengers along the Kilgoris-Nyangusu-Gesusu-Masimba route before eventually losing control moments later under unclear circumstances.
