Social media influencer and former abductee Billy Mwangi has claimed that his life is in danger following a controversial social media post purportedly linking him to a series of attacks against Albert Ojwang's father.
Mwangi, who was allegedly abducted and released in December last year, said on Thursday, June 19, that he had received threatening messages from individuals he claimed were targeting him because of a post criticising Meshack Ojwang for accepting President William Ruto's money.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, the blogger disclosed that over the past few days, he had received several intimidating messages, which forced him to seek police intervention.
The 24-year-old told the publication that on Thursday morning, he reported the matter to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters located along Kiambu Road in Nairobi. However, according to him, no action was taken.
He strongly believes the threats stemmed from the social media post shared by an X account bearing his name, which allegedly criticised Mzee Ojwang for accepting a Ksh2 million token from the Head of State after his son died in police custody.
"It is true that I have been receiving threats through text messages on my phone. I have tried reporting the matter to the DCI, but no action has been taken so far," Mwangi said.
He went on to add, "I began receiving these messages after an X account bearing my name shared Albert Ojwang's number for Kenyans to 'greet' him for accepting Ruto's money."
Mwangi, while expressing fear for his life, distanced himself from the controversial social media post that targeted Albert Ojwang's parent, maintaining that some X users had reportedly created accounts in his name to taint his reputation.
He reiterated that since the suspension of his X account weeks ago, he has not accessed the social media platform, and insisted that the trending post did not originate from him.
"My X account is currently suspended. It was suspended because I changed the password several times, and not because of any wrong post. But soon I will be back," he disclosed.
The blogger, who came into the limelight after his harrowing abduction six months ago, recently caught the attention of many Kenyans after his brave move, announcing his plans to vie for the Embu Senate seat in 2027.
He announced his ambitious political goal on June 1, during a rally in Embu town. "I will stand up for the youth. For free speech and justice. I ask the people of Embu to support my bid," Billy declared.
During the announcement, the blogger called on the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to support his bid by granting him a job.
