Kenyans living in the counties of Nairobi, Kiambu, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi have been warned to brace for extremely low temperatures during the week, according to the latest update from the Kenya Meteorological Department.
In its weather update issued on Tuesday, the weatherman revealed that residents in the listed counties should expect sunny intervals and isolated showers on Tuesday and Wednesday.
However, from Thursday to Saturday, rainfall is expected, with showers likely to occur during the morning and afternoon hours.
Temperatures in these counties are forecast to drop to lows of 6 degrees Celsius, with highs of up to 26 degrees Celsius.
Rainfall is also expected over the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, and the Coast.
Counties likely to be affected include Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot.
These counties will, however, experience sunny intervals during the morning hours throughout the week. Temperatures are expected to range from lows of 9 to highs of 28 degrees Celsius for most of the week.
In the North-Eastern region, Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo, sunny intervals will persist throughout the week, with a slight chance of rainfall on Wednesday afternoon.
Maximum temperatures will rise to 37 degrees Celsius, while the lowest will be around 15 degrees Celsius.
The forecast indicates cloudy mornings breaking into sunny intervals in the south-eastern lowlands, including Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, and inland parts of Tana River County.
Generally sunny conditions are expected to prevail in the afternoon. Temperatures in these areas will range between 11 and 31 degrees Celsius.
Finally, coastal counties, Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, and coastal parts of Tana River, will experience sunny intervals on Tuesday morning, followed by showers in the morning and afternoon in the coming days. Maximum temperatures will reach 31 degrees Celsius, with minimums around 22 degrees Celsius.
