Kenyans working or residing in Qatar have been directed to register with the Kenyan Embassy in Doha, following the escalating tension in the region.

In a statement on Wednesday, June 25, the Embassy said that the registration will enable the government to provide the necessary and timely help and support.

During the registration, individuals will be required to submit their details, where they work and live, as well as the personal and contact details of their two next of kin, one in Kenya and another in Qatar, who can be contacted in case of an emergency.

On Monday, June 23, the Qatar government temporarily shut down its airspace hours after Iran threatened to retaliate against the United States after strikes on its nuclear sites.

According to the Embassy, the government of Qatar is taking other precautionary measures to ensure that residents are well protected. Kenyans have been urged to remain calm and adhere to the guidelines that the Qatari government will issue.

"In light of recent events, we urge you to remain calm and follow the official guidelines issued by Qatari Authorities. Qatar remains secure and responsive," the Embassy stated.

"Please ensure you're registered with the Kenya Embassy in Doha for timely updates and support. This information will be kept entirely confidential for official use only," it added.

Israel-Iran Tension

Since the situation between Israel and Iran intensified, the government has repeatedly urged Kenyans residing in these two countries to be vigilant and ensure that they prioritise their safety.

In a statement on Saturday, June 21, the state Department for Diaspora Affairs urged Kenyans living in Israel and Iran to register with their respective embassies for easier assistance.

According to the department, Kenyans living in Iran can access the Kenyan Embassy Tehran via +98 21 88667394 or +98 21 88667368, or their email.

On the other hand, Kenyan citizens living in Israel can contact the Kenyan Embassy in Tel Aviv via +972 3 5754633 or +972 54 691 4773 or via their email, while the diaspora affairs' contacts are +254 207 876 000 or +254 114 757 002.

Additionally, the department instructed Kenyans to ensure they had essential documents and supplies ready and to avoid non-essential movement.

“For your safety and to ensure we can assist you promptly in case of any emergency or distress, we kindly ask you to register your details with the State Department for Diaspora Affairs,” the department stated.
