Several suspects believed to have been involved in violent demonstrations and looting across the country have been apprehended as authorities continue with the crackdown following the June 25 protests.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed the arrests in a statement on Sunday, June 29, thanks to a series of coordinated operations across multiple counties.

In Mbeere South, officers attached to the DCI arrested two suspects and recovered a white water tank with a metal casting.

According to the DCI, the tank was among several items that were looted from Kiritiri Market during the height of the protests, which turned violent in several parts of the country.

Elsewhere, in the Kikuyu and Dagoretti areas, a Nissan matatu was intercepted by detectives, and investigations revealed that the vehicle was allegedly used to ferry suspected robbers from Gachui-Mutuini to Dagoretti Centre.

During the unrest in Dagoretti, the suspects stole firearms and police uniforms, while several police officers were injured in the mayhem. The violence culminated in a police post being torched.

According to the DCI, four people were arrested for allegedly organising the group to carry out the riots.

Furthermore, the DCI acknowledged that CCTV footage showing one of the suspects brandishing a stolen firearm aided investigations.

Seven additional suspects were arrested in Mai Mahiu in relation to the theft of domestic goods from a well-known hotel. Among the stolen goods were packets of maize flour and other food items, according to images released by DCI.

The arrested suspects are undergoing legal processing and are expected to face a range of charges, including theft, malicious damage to property and assault on police officers.

On Friday, a trio was nabbed by the DCI on suspicion of inciting violence and mobilising goons to show up for the June 25 protests.

24 hours earlier, the DCI arrested 24 suspects in connection with the torching of the Kikuyu Law Courts, Kikuyu Sub-County offices, and other government facilities during the Wednesday protests.
