The Ministry of Water has announced internship programmes targeting young professionals, particularly graduates with a bachelor's degree certificate.
In its announcement on Tuesday, July 1, the Ministry said the programme was funded by the World Bank under the Horn of Africa Groundwater for Resilience Project.
The Horn of Africa Groundwater for Resilience is a project that aims to improve access to clean water in the Horn of Africa borderlands and also build drought resilience.
According to the Ministry of Water, the programme aims to build the capacity of employees serving in the water sector for the sustainability of the project's impact.
As per the notice, applicants should be degree holders and must have obtained the said qualification not more than two years before the date of the Ministry's advertisement.
Similarly, applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 35 and must have obtained their bachelor's degree from a recognised institution.
The person seeking the internship slot should not have undertaken any other internship or have been exposed to work experience in their area of specialisation after graduation.
Additionally, an applicant must have good communication, computer and writing skills and further showcase creativity, flexibility and have a pro-active attitude.
"It is envisaged that the internship program will bridge the gap between academic knowledge and real-world work as well as prepare the young graduates for successful careers by immersing them in practical work environments," the Ministry stated.
Upon shortlisting, interns will be deployed to regions implementing the World Bank project. They will then be required to apply their academic knowledge and gain valuable insights.
The interns will occasionally be engaged in the field assignments, particularly during the implementation of the project activities at the 5 counties targeted in the project.
The Ministry of Water stated that the internship programme would last for 12 months, with the first batch of interns expected to be absorbed in the third quarter of this year.
In the announcement, the government stated that those recruited for the programme would receive a monthly stipend and field allowances as prescribed in the Internship Policy.
