Hanifa Adan has revealed that a 14-year-old girl who was injured during the June 25 protest died in the hospital while receiving treatment.
In her post on the socials on Tuesday, July 1, she said that the girl was in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Our Lady of Mercy before she passed on.
"Unfortunately, a 14-year-old girl who was at Our Lady of Mercy and injured during the protest succumbed in the ICU and passed on," her post reads.
Hanifa said this after visiting the casualties who were also admitted to the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) after the June 17 protest injuries.
She said that most gunshot patients have been discharged, adding that only a few remain, and one patient will be discharged on July 2.
"Doing my rounds at KNH, and most gunshot patients have been discharged; very few are left. Even Mike Kamau, who was in a very bad state when he came in with six bullets, is doing well and will be discharged tomorrow," Hanifa said.
KHN CEO William Sigilai, on June 18, announced that it had admitted 16 patients and they were receiving treatment this followed the June 17 protests over the death of teacher and blogger Albert Ojwang in police custody.
"In total, we received 16 casualties in our accident and emergency centre yesterday from the protests. The injuries that were described ranged from gunshot wounds to blunt trauma," he stated.
Out of the 16 patients, seven were admitted to the facility for more treatment, while nine were treated and discharged.
One of the patients who was shot and admitted to KNH, Boniface Mwangi Kariuki, a vendor, died on June 30, 2025.
Mwangi's father, Jonah Kariuki, while speaking to the press, revealed that they were having financial difficulties after Mwangi had been in the ICU for more than two weeks.
"All I can say is that we have a tough task ahead, as getting him out of there (the mortuary) is hard because we do not have money. We are seeking help from Kenyans," Jonah Kariuki, his father, stated.
