Athletics Kenya Changes Date and Venue for 2025 World Championships Trials

Athletics Kenya has announced new dates and venues for the 2025 World Athletics Championships trials.

In the statement on Friday, July 4, the agency stated that the change was due to the unavailability of the stadium on the previously planned dates of August 1 and August 2, 2025.

"This adjustment has been necessitated by the unavailability of the stadium on the initially scheduled dates of 1st–2nd August," read part of a statement by Athletics Kenya.

"We urge all participants to take note of this change and adjust their preparations accordingly," it added.

Athletics Kenya stated that the trials would now take place on  Tuesday, July 22, this year at Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi.

"Athletics Kenya wishes to inform athletes and stakeholders in the athletics fraternity that the Trials for the World Athletics Championships - Tokyo 2025 will now be held on July 22, 2025, at the Ulinzi Sports Complex, Nairobi," the entity announced.

Other matters addressed by the organisation included the bib collection with Athletics Kenya stating that the bib collection for athletes would happen on Monday, July 21, 2025, from 10 am to 4 pm at the event venue.

In its announcement, the institution also noted that the trials would be held specifically for those invited and that the criteria of invitation would be communicated in due course.

It further revealed that the trials would be held as a preparatory measure ahead of the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, which is set to take place from September 13 to September 21, 2025.

"Participation at the trials will be by invitation only. Additional details, including the list of invited athletes, invitation criteria, and selection criteria for the Kenyan team to the 2025 World Athletics Championships, will be communicated in due course," Athletics Kenya noted.

The 2025 World Athletics Championships will be held at Tokyo's rebuilt Japan National Stadium, with more than 2000 athletes from more than 200 countries set to complete 49 tracks and field events.

The organizers expect the tournament to be filled with a large number of speculators filling over 68,000 seats stadium.
