Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has condemned former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's controversial sentiments targeting President William Ruto.
Duale on Saturday evening accused the former DP of making 'reckless' and 'harmful' remarks that could potentially plunge the country into chaos if not controlled.
This is after Gachagua criticised the Head of State for reportedly frustrating Mt Kenya people and using divisive tactics to stall the populous region's progress.
Responding to Gachagua's sentiments, Duale said that the former DP's statement lowered the standards of Kenya's leadership and that the latter was out to sow division among Kenyans.
"We know Mr Gachagua is in a self-destructive mode. But he cannot burn the country as he destroys himself. Such reckless statements are dangerous for our country’s peace and stability. This is truly lowering the bar for leadership," Duale wrote.
Meanwhile, the former DP made the statement during the burial of his maternal aunt, who died on June 28. Gachagua said that the country was in dire need of help, adding that his deceased aunt had warned him against Ruto's leadership, but he failed to listen.
He went ahead to accuse the President of allegedly attempting to persecute his family members and the broader Mt Kenya region for failing to back his leadership.
However, Gachagua dismissed fears of being persecuted by the current regime, stating that he was ready for any potential harm against him and his family.
"We are in trouble and at a crossroads. My mother here has warned me that William Ruto is an evil man and if he is elected as president, he will persecute me, my children, and my community, and it has come to pass."
"I am not worried about myself because I am the one who caused the mess. I can be persecuted, but my children also can be persecuted for my community. We need help," Gachagua said.
During the event, Gachagua recounted the times his aunt used to call him and expressed concern over his closeness with Ruto. “She told me that the person I was walking around with, Ruto, is not good. She warned me to be careful. But I told her that he had changed," he said.
Gachagua, in his lengthy speech, narrated that despite her aunt's advice, he chose to ignore them.
“She told me to leave him alone, but I refused. She added that this person was going to mess with me and even my children. I disputed her," he added.
