Former United Democratic Alliance (UDA) chairperson Johnson Muthama has graduated with a Master's degree in Public Administration from the prestigious University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom.
Muthama announced the news on his social media platforms on Wednesday, July 10, sharing images from his graduation ceremony.
"My Big Day at the University of Birmingham, Master's of Public Administration," Muthama shared in his celebratory post, expressing elation at completing the rigorous program.
This academic achievement comes just years after Muthama faced public scrutiny over his academic qualifications during the 2022 general elections, when he sought the UDA ticket to contest the Machakos Governorship.
The electoral commission had listed a university degree as a requirement for all gubernatorial aspirants and they were claims Muthama did not have proper academic credentials.
Muthama responded by confirming that he is fit to run as the IEBC cleared him on June 4, 2022, after confirming that his Bachelor's degree met the requirements to vie.
During his speech to the press, he clarified that he was fit for the position in a bid to end the speculations about his credentials.
"I am happy to have gone through this process. Many people were told that I would not be cleared and that I would not be a candidate."
"They talked as if they owned the colleges, teachers, and lecturers and that they are the ones to sanction who becomes what, but today we have proved beyond reasonable doubt that we qualify and that we are ready to serve the people," Muthama said.
His current master's graduation further proves his academic legitimacy and qualifications.
Muthama is currently serving as a commissioner at the Parliamentary Service Commission.
Before joining UDA, Muthama played a role in the National Super Alliance (NASA) and CORD in the 2013 and 2017 general elections, respectively.
