Hardly two days after former Alliance Girls High School students protested against cases of sexual assault at the institution, Loreto High School, Limuru, alumni have raised similar concerns.
In a notice dated Friday, July 11, the Loreto Limuru Alumni Association raised the alarm over reports of sexual abuse by certain teachers at the school.
The matter was brought up during a Board of Management meeting held yesterday and attended by two former students, who accused five staff members of sexually grooming girls at the national school.
Commenting on the matter, the school administration revealed that it had already begun investigating the cases, including summoning the staff members in question over the accusations.
During the meeting, it was also agreed that the said staff should be subjected to the Teachers' Service Commission's (TSC) disciplinary procedures to ensure justice for all the victims.
To further expedite the process, members of the Board of Management agreed that additional suggestion boxes be strategically placed around the school to improve information gathering.
"In this regard, all those who have experienced inappropriate conduct from the said staff are requested to provide this information to deal with the offenders appropriately," the Alumni Association stated.
While calling for a speedy investigation into the sexual assault cases, the Alumni Association also recommended mental health support for those affected.
They further called for enhanced coordination between the Board of Management and the Parents' Association to ensure all perpetrators are brought to book.
The development comes days after Alliance Girls alumni staged demonstrations outside the school over alleged sexual abuse incidents by a male teacher, which they claimed had taken place over an unknown period.
The former students on Thursday, July 10, gathered outside the school in protest, despite a heavy police presence. They criticised TSC for failing to respond to their initial letter in which they had called for the disciplinary of the said teacher.
However, after hours of demonstrations, Education Principal Secretary, Julius Bitok, responded, calling for the immediate arrest and prosecution of an Alliance Girls High School teacher.
“That teacher is going to be punished and interdicted. We have talked to TSC and all other stakeholders to ensure that he is arrested,” Bitok affirmed.
