Highway carjacking

Separately, detectives from Makindu Police Station have arrested a second suspect linked to the highway carjacking incident that occurred on July 13, 2025, along the Mombasa–Nairobi highway.

The arrest comes days after his accomplice was apprehended and a stolen Subaru Trezia was recovered in Ukia, Makueni Sub-County.

Investigators believe the arrested suspect played a key role in planning the attack and coordinating the getaway.

He is currently in custody and is set to be charged alongside his co-accused, who is already before the court.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the two are believed to be behind a highway ambush that left a motorist injured and his vehicle stolen.

The victim, who was driving from Mombasa to Malaba, had reportedly picked up two hitchhikers at Mariakani before the attack.
