The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has confirmed that it charges Ksh1,000 for inter-institutional transfers.

While the applicable fee is not a new development, the clarification follows a series of complaints from a section of students and parents who questioned why they had to pay for the inter-institutional transfers.

In a statement, KUCCPS revealed the exact charges, warning students not to fall prey to anyone asking for more cash.

''Inter-institution transfer application fee is Ksh1,000,'' the statement by KUCCPS read in part.

The price confirmation follows the placement body's recent move of opening the 2025 Inter-Institutional Transfer application on Monday, July 14.

KUCCPS says the charge for the varsity transfers is a processing fee that covers the administrative work involved in reviewing and coordinating each application.

The placement body needs to assess the validity of the reason for the transfer request, system maintenance and resource allocation to support staff and systems that ensure timely processing, typically within 14 working days.

All payments are to be made via the e-citizen, the government payment platform for all government services.

Students placed this year and wish to transfer to other institutions were invited to apply online through the KUCCPS Students’ Portal from July 14 to August 12.

KUCCPS also clarified to students that it was possible to transfer to a different university and maintain the same course that one had selected in the previous university.

However, KUCCPS revealed that one must have the cut-off points for that course in the new university.

The transfer is not only for students who sat for their KCSE in 2024, but is also open to those students who sat for their exams in 2023, KUCCPS revealed.

Students who missed out on the placement and didn't secure a place in a university can reach out to the placement body by providing their official KCSE index number and KCSE year through email to request consideration.
