United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and Kitui East Member of Parliament (MP) Nimrod Mbai is mourning the tragic loss of his mother, Dorcas Kanini Mbai, who died in a road accident on Sunday evening.
The fatal crash occurred at Kithimani along the busy Thika-Garissa Highway in Machakos County.
The MP confirmed the heartbreaking news through an emotional post, revealing the profound pain the family was experiencing. “With a heavy heart, I share the heartbreaking news that I have lost my beloved mother, Dorcas Kanini Mbai, in a tragic road accident at Kithimani along the Nairobi-Garissa Highway in Machakos County,” he stated.
He added, “God, who gives, has taken away. Rest in peace, Mama. You were loved beyond words and will be deeply missed. May your soul find eternal peace. Go well, my dear Mum.”
The circumstances surrounding the crash have yet to be fully established, but police are reported to have launched an investigation into the cause of the incident.
However, it was not immediately clear from the preliminary reports whether the matriarch was travelling alone at the time of the accident or in the company of other relatives.
Fellow MPs and leaders from across the political divide have continued to send their condolences to the legislator and his family.
Among them was Mwala MP Vincent Kawaya, who described the late Dorcas as a woman of grace and strength.
“I am deeply saddened to learn of the sudden death of Dorcas Mbithuka, mother to Hon. Nimrod Mbai. I take this moment to convey my utmost condolences to her family and the entire people of Kitui East,” Kawaya said in a statement.
Burial arrangements are currently underway, with the family expected to announce the funeral arrangements in the coming days.
The legislator's latest loss comes just a year after he and his wife mourned the passing of his father-in-law in July 2024. At the time, Mbai shared a deeply personal tribute to his wife, highlighting the emotional toll the death had taken on their family.
“My heart feels for you, the Love of My Life. I have never seen you this low for the over 20 years we have been together,” the MP wrote. “I know how much your father loved you and how close you were to him. I know I can't become your father, but I will try to be your dad for all my days below the heavens.”
