Women leaders allied to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua have called on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to arrest Kikuyu MP and National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah.
In an official presser on Tuesday, July 22, the women DCP leaders have condemned the MP for recent remarks he made about Gachagua's wife Dorcus Rigathi and called for his immediate arrest.
In a video that made rounds on social media, the Kikuyu MP was on record mocking Gachagua’s ‘wantam’ slogan, dismissing it as nothing more than a household phrase.
He further claimed that Gachagua was preoccupied with politicking at the expense of his union with Pastor Dorcas, comments that triggered public outrage and backlash on social media.
Speaking at the press conference, DCP representative Moraa John accused Ichung’wah of launching a smear campaign against women in leadership positions by making those comments.
“We have information that you are targeting women, and as DCP women, we are not happy. We want the DCI to use the same energy they’re using to come after women in DCP to arrest Kimani Ichung’wah,” the leader said.
Njeri Kahiga, another DCP woman leader, described Ichung'wah's comments against Pastor Dorcus as reckless and dishonourable. She praised Pastor Dorcas as a national figure of compassion, known for her work in mental health advocacy, support for widows and orphans, and championing boychild initiatives.
“To belittle her worth in the name of political rivalry is unacceptable. Leadership demands restraint, maturity, and respect,” Kahiga said.
Apart from Ichung'wah's arrest, the leaders also want the MP to retract the statement he made and make a public apology to the former second lady.
Tensions between Ichung'wah and Gachagua have been escalating in recent months, particularly since Gachagua was impeached from his position as the country's second most powerful figure.
Ichung'wah, a powerful figure in the National Assembly, is said to have rallied MPs in support of the motion to impeach Gachagua for alleged constitutional violations.
The tensions also escalated in June 2025 after Ichung'wah accused Gachagua of intending to send goons to harm his elderly parents and burn down their house.
