The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) has ordered Chiromo Hospital - Braeside branch, the hospital where the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Toto Touch, Susan Njoki, died to cease all clinical operations immediately.
In a letter signed by KMPDC CEO David Kariuki on Friday, July 25, the hospital was given the directive even as reports emerged that a member of the facility’s staff was said to be involved in the mysterious death of Njoki.
KMPDC also directed the hospital to evacuate its patients within 24 hours of receiving the letter.
This followed an inspection of the hospital by KMPDC on July 18. The facility was also ordered to respond to the letter by providing copies of Njoki’s post-mortem report and her relevant patient records and documentation.
“Following further reports indicating the possible involvement of a member of your staff in the death of Susan Kamengere Njoki, the Council issues the following directives effective immediately,” the letter reads in part.
“You are hereby instructed to evacuate all patients within 24 hours of receipt of this letter, cease all clinical operations at the hospital until further notice, and respond without delay to the letter referenced above,” it added.
Njoki died on July 15, just a day after she was reportedly taken forcefully from her home and injected with foreign medicine before being taken to the hospital.
Audio recordings of Njoki, in possession of revealed that her house in Kileleshwa had been stormed by several men, who forcibly took her and injected her, allegedly under the instructions of her husband.
In the chilling audio recording, Njoki recounted how two men forcibly restrained her while two nurses injected her against her will.
When she demanded to know where they were taking her, the men refused to answer, leaving her terrified and confused.
An autopsy report later revealed that Njoki died of manual strangulation, with a team of six pathologists confirming evidence of compression injuries to Njoki's neck.
While addressing a press conference on Tuesday, July 22, the pathologists further detailed that the severe neck compression led to a lack of oxygen in Njoki's bloodstream. It was this crucial deprivation of vital oxygen that resulted in her death, according to the medical experts.
Further, the team found out that the CEO passed away a few hours after feeding. As they found food in her stomach, the doctors believe she passed on after having her last meal of the day.
Notably, the pathologists also clarified that Njoki died in the hospital and not on her way to the hospital as per the reports by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
