Former Cabinet Secretary Farida Karoney has made a comeback to the media world, joining Cape Media Limited as the Growth Strategy Consultant.
In her new role, Karoney will oversee policy and strategic changes geared towards making Cape Media, the parent company that owns TV47, Radio47 and TV47 Digital, and place it competitively in the market.
Karoney is remembered for her role in the Cabinet, where she served as CS for Lands and Physical Planning from 2018 to 2022 in former President Uhuru Kenyatta's government.
Karoney holds an extensive media background, previously serving as Chief Operating Officer and Editorial Director at Royal Media Services, where she was credited with championing progressive advancements and pioneering initiatives that elevated the SK Macharia-owned media house.
Before that, she had roles at the Kenya Television Network (KTN), Nation Media Group, and Al Jazeera in various capacities.
Speaking after landing the role, Karoney highlighted the need to further mould a strong Cape Media brand, as well as diversify revenue streams at the fast-growing media company.
For his part, Cape Media Chairperson Simon Gicharu lauded her appointment as one that would ensure that TV47, Radio47 and TV47 Digital sustain the growth and trajectory they enjoy.
In her time as Lands CS, Karoney pushed for the digitisation of land records through the National Land Information Management System (NLIMS), popularly known as Ardhisasa.
The primary goals of Ardhisasa were to streamline land transactions, enhance transparency, reduce fraud and forgery, cut down on turnaround times for services, such as title searches and transfers, and improve revenue collection.
After her time as a CS, Karoney maintained a low profile but returned to public service after President William Ruto appointed her as the Chairperson of the National Lottery Board in August 2024.
Karoney holds a Bachelor of Science in Education, specialising in Botany and Zoology from Kenyatta University.
Further, she holds a Master's in Business Administration (MBA) in Strategic Management and a PhD in Business Administration (Strategy) from the University of Nairobi (UoN). This is in addition to holding a Postgraduate Diploma in Mass Communication from the same institution.
