A showdown is looming in the Senate after expelled UDA nominated senator Gloria Orwoba vowed to return, despite Consolata Nabwire having already been sworn in as her replacement.
During a roundtable discussion on Thursday about recent events in the Senate, Orwoba revealed that she still considers herself to be the UDA-nominated senator, in light of the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal's ruling that dismissed her expulsion.
‘’Well, unless anything changes, I am going to the Senate, and I am the nominated senator; I know that she might also believe that she is, that’s good for her,’’ the embattled Nominated Senator said.
On Wednesday, Orwoba’s replacement was sworn in in Senate, in a ceremony that was presided over by Senate Speaker Amason Kingi.
Meanwhile, on the same day as the swearing-in ceremony, the tribunal ruled that the ruling UDA party must reinstate Orwoba to her position, having found that the disciplinary proceedings against her were marred by legal procedural lapses and irregularities.
Orwoba says that, although people are urging her to play down her expulsion and move on, she is determined to fight to eliminate impunity and injustice in the country.
‘’It's not about the party, you have to fight to make sure that we stop the impunity, injustice and unconstitutional behaviours that we are seeing left, right and centre,’’ Orwoba explained.
‘’This is about the fundamental basis of having a country that works,’’ the Senator continued.
Further, Orwoba denied the narrative that, having been a nominated Senator, she was handed the position and had no right to fight for it.
‘’People say President William Ruto gave me that position, I want to make it clear, he never gave me that position, I worked hard for it, I was arrested severally times for being associated with Ruto, I earned this position,’’ she continued.
Orwoba maintained that if UDA want her removed, then they should use the right channels.
The nominated Senator did, however, not reveal the exact day when she will appear in Senate.
