Kenya Met Predicts Cold and Cloudy Weather in Nairobi, 5 Other Regions

The Kenya Meteorological Department has announced continued occasional cold and cloudy conditions over several parts of the country for the next five days, from Friday this week to Tuesday, next week.

In its wekly weather advisory published on Friday, August 29, Kenya Met warned of cold weather over parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the South-eastern lowlands and the Rift Valley.

According to the weather department, temperatures in the Highland East counties of Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu and Tharaka Nithi would flactuate betwen 5°C and 7°C.

Additionally, in Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu and Elgeyo Marakwet, temperatures were expected to drop up to 8°C.

A similar weather pattern was expected in Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and West Pokot Counties.

While several parts of the country was expected to experince intermittent cold and cloudy conditions over the weekend, the coastal counties of Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale would remain moderately warm.

Other couties that were also projected to experince warmth are those located in the North-eastern region including Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo.

Rainfall Advisory

The meteorological depatrment in its weekend weather advisory also cautioned of potential rains in the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley.

Counties located in these regions include Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and West Pokot.

As per the advisory, rains in the aforemetion places were likely to start in the afternoon and extend into the night with the weather departmenr stating that the downpour would be accompanied by thunderstorm.

However, rains in these palces were predicted to start in the morning during the last two days of the forecast periods, on Monday, September 1 and Tuesday, September 2.

Kenya Met further warned of strong southerly winds with speeds exceeding 25 knots over the Coast, the South-eastern lowlands, North-eastern and North-western Kenya.
