The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has apprehended four suspects who were caught red-handed while stealing bags of lentils from a godown.
In a statement on Sunday, August 31, the detectives stated that the arrests, coordinated by enforcement officers from Embakasi Sub-County, were made following a tip-off.
According to the detectives, the four male suspects were arrested as they were loading bags of the legume into a lorry.
The suspects are currently in custody as detectives process them ahead of arraignment in court, according to DCI.
"A joint operation by law enforcement officers drawn from Embakasi Sub-County, working closely with members of the public, has led to the arrest of four suspects involved in a break-in at the Rama Homes godowns earlier today," DCI stated.
"Acting on a tip-off, the officers caught the suspects in the middle of loading bags of lentils onto a lorry. The scene was documented, and key evidence secured while the suspects have since been taken into custody and processed pending arraignment," it added.
The announcement comes hours after detectives also arrested those behind a series of livestock thefts in Kirinyaga, following a coordinated operation in the county.
In a statement on Sunday, August 31, the detectives confirmed that the arrests were made following a series of intelligence-driven investigations.
According to the DCI, the suspects were caught unawares during a planned raid in Kagio and Mwea towns in Kirinyaga County.
The detectives revealed that the group not only consisted of thieves but also buyers, transporters, and butchers who played different roles in the livestock theft network.
"Following a series of intelligence-led investigations, detectives have arrested eight individuals suspected of being behind a wave of livestock thefts that have plagued Kirinyaga, Embu, Nyeri, and Murang’a counties. Operating under the cover of darkness, the group is believed to have instilled fear among local farmers through a string of well-coordinated cattle thefts," the DCI stated.
"Detectives have arrested four more individuals in connection with a series of livestock theft incidents that have significantly affected the Central and Eastern regions. These thefts have resulted in substantial financial losses for farmers and have disrupted their primary source of livelihood," it added.
