The Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) in Haiti has revealed the identity of the Kenyan police officer who died on Sunday, August 31, following a tragic road accident in Pétion-Ville. The officer has been identified as Corporal Kennedy Mutuku Nzuve.
According to the MSS, the accident occurred at around 5pm along the Kenscoff–Pétion-Ville road at Perlerin 9 during a recovery operation. Corporal Nzuve was rushed to Lambert Santé Hospital in Pétion-Ville, where he was pronounced dead.
According to Jack Ombaka, the MSS spokesperson, the incident happened during a recovery operation involving two MaxxPro vehicles. One of the vehicles, which was towing the other, developed mechanical problems, leading to the fatal crash.
Born on March 8, 1984, in Machakos County, Nzuve joined the National Police Service in 2005 before being deployed to the Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU).
He later served in various regions across Kenya, including Narok and Baringo counties.
The MSS described Corporal Nzuve as a committed and courageous officer who was part of Kenya’s 3rd contingent to the mission. His service was hailed as a testament to his dedication to international peace and security.

We also wish a speedy recovery to those injured, who are thankfully out of danger,'' a statement from MSS read in part, while extending its condolences to his family.

Kenya's Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary, Korir Sing'Oei, also shared his condolences with the family of the deceased and the entire Kenyan officers in the Caribbean nation.
''Deeply saddened by the news of the loss of Corporal Kennedy Mutuku Nzuve, a member of Kenya’s deployment in the MSSM Haiti. We condole with the entire deployment under Commander Godfrey Otunge as well as Corporal Mutuku’s family. May his supreme sacrifice contribute to a more peaceful Haiti," Sing'Oei shared.
On Monday, the MSS battalion, including personnel from Kenya, the Bahamas, Jamaica, El Salvador, and Guatemala, alongside other staff, gathered at the main dining facility (Defac) at LSA1 in Haiti to honour the deceased's memory in a solemn service before his remains were flown to the Dominican Republic for preservation and onward repatriation to Kenya.
National Police Service spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga revealed that the officer’s family had already been notified of the development.
The MSS is currently working with the Haitian National Police and is coordinating the process of flying the officer’s body back to Kenya.
