Nairobi residents have been warned to brace for major traffic disruptions along Thika Road from 6 am on Friday, September 5, ahead of Kenya's match against Gambia.
Harambee Stars is expected to play Gambia in the World Cup Qualifiers at the Moi International Stadium, Kasarani, with the match likely to affect traffic along Thika Road and routes to the stadium.
In a statement on Thursday evening, the National Police Service (NPS) urged motorists to adhere to traffic regulations, warning that roadblocks would be mounted at Muthaiga and Ruiru interchanges.
To ease potential congestion along the route, the police urged motorists to use alternative roads to reach their destinations.
"Due to the ongoing World Cup 2026 Qualifiers, the National Police Service wishes to inform the public of temporary road closures and traffic diversions in Nairobi," read part of a statement by NPS.
Nairobi CBD to Thika Road
Kenyans who plan to move from the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) to destinations within Thika Road, including Juja, Ruiru and Thika Town, were directed to use the Kiambu Road at Exit 4.
Thika Superhighway to Mwiki
Nairobi residents planning to travel to Mwiki were directed to use the Ruaka-Baba Dogo-Lucky Summer-Nairobi River, and finally to Mwiki.
Thika/Juja/Ruiru to Nairobi CBD
Residents of Thika, Ruiru and Juja with intentions of travelling to Nairobi CBD were directed to use the Northern Bypass or Kimabu Road to get to their destination.
According to the police service, a roadblock would be mounted at Ruiru interchange to stop any potential breach of the traffic regulation.
Githurai to Nairobi CBD
Motorists travelling from Githurai to Nairobi city centre were urged to use the Githurai 44-Kiambu Road route to reach the CBD.
Nairobi CBD to Moi International Stadium, Kasarani
Kenyans travelling to the Moi International Stadium, Kasarani, from Nairobi CBD were told ot use the service lane at Exit 7 and Exit 8.
While urging drivers to use the aforementioned alternative routes, NPS called on all motorists to cooperate with officers on site to ensure smooth traffic flow.
