The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) now says that it has commenced investigations into the gruesome murder of Nairobi city lawyer Kyalo Mbobu, who was shot dead on Tuesday evening by unknown people along Magadi Road.

In a statement on Wednesday, September 10, DCI revealed that immediately after the incident, a team of detectives was dispatched to the scene under the leadership of the Nairobi Regional Criminal Intelligence Officer (RCIO).

The scene was cordoned off before detectives from the DCI Homicide Bureau, supported by experts from the National Forensic Laboratory, examined the scene and collected critical evidence essential to the investigation.

"The DCI is committed to ensuring that the perpetrators of this heinous act are brought to justice. Our investigators are employing all available resources and expertise to piece together the events surrounding this incident," the detectives noted.

While confirming the commencement of a probe, the DCI officers called on members of the public to exercise calm and cooperate with the officers to resolve the matter.

"We are determined to provide the justice that Lawyer Kyalo Mbobu and his loved ones deserve," the DCI officers affirmed.

To expedite the probe, detectives are now calling on Kenyans with information that could assist the investigations to report to the nearest police station.

However, in its report, the DCI officers did not reveal information regarding any arrests, with the primary intention of the murder yet to be established.

On the fateful evening, the lawyer is said to have driven to the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD), where he held a meeting with unknown people inside one of the city hotels.

He then left the hotel and drove to attend another meeting within the CBD before heading to Lang'ata Road. While on Lang'ata Road, he branched to Magadi Road to connect to Gataka Road through Catholic University of East and Central Africa Road.

At the time of the incident, Mbobu was heading home; however, upon his arrival at the Magadi Road, he was suddenly attacked by two people who were on a motorcycle.

Reports indicate that the incident occurred during a traffic snarl-up along the Magadi Road, with the assailants taking the opportunity to shoot him dead.

Police officers have since managed to recover three used cartridges, with preliminary investigations revealing that Mbobu was shot five times in the head, killing him on the spot.
