The Kenyan Quick Reaction Force (KENQRF), alongside their United Nations Organisation Stabilisation Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) officers, have intensified patrol operations in Eastern DRC amid rising attacks.
They are working hand in hand with troops from the Indonesian Rapid Deployment Battalion and the Republic of South Africa Battalion (RSABATT).
Commander Lieutenant Colonel Simon Seda has hailed the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) for the recent mission tasked with protecting civilians in Ituri Province, eastern DRC.
“Since the operation began a few weeks ago, the security situation in the area has significantly improved," Lieutenant Seda stated.
"Feedback from local elders, women, and youth indicates that the community feels safer and is now able to sleep peacefully, thanks to the ongoing patrols that we jointly conduct round the clock."
So far, the KDF troop has intensified joint area domination patrols in the areas of Komanda, Ngeleza, Bandiamosi, Bamande and Irumu Villages, among other villages in the area of operation.
This recognition comes in the wake of a recent increase in attacks by illegal armed groups in the region.
The Kenyan troops, working hand in hand with the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC), have an objective to disrupt and neutralise negative forces within Ituri territory with the objective of these joint operations.
On August 29, the Fourth Contingent of KENQRF was awarded UN service medals in recognition of its outstanding performance during a one-year tour of duty.

“We have witnessed your resilience in this challenging environment. In addition, your engagement with the local community through cultural exchanges, key leadership engagements, and religious outreach programmes has built trust and fostered relationships with the community, while demonstrating the compassion of being a peacekeeper,” said Lt Gen Gomes.
Expressing gratitude after the awards, KENQRF Commander Lieutenant Colonel Simon Seda expressed gratitude on behalf of the troops.
“These medals are not just a symbol of service but also a reminder of the sacrifices we have made jointly with the people of the Democratic Republic of Congo, the local security forces, and our partners within MONUSCO. We are humbled by the trust placed in us and proud to have flown the Kenyan flag high under the banner of the United Nations," he stated.
