The authority has further noted that it has received the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report for the project and has noted that the public should also table their views on the project before it gives a green light.

According to NEMA, NSSF has already laid out strategies to mitigate the anticipated impacts of the project. Some of the impacts include air pollution, noise pollution, solid and liquid waste, increased water demand, traffic congestion, the health and safety of workers, and risks of inferno.

"Pursuant to section 59 of the Environmental Management and Coordination Act, 1999, the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has received an Environmental Impact Assessment Study Report for the above proposed project," the notice read.

Individuals who might be interested in a full report of the project have been advised to visit the Environment Principal Secretary's offices at NHIF building, 12th floor, in Upper Hill, or the NEMA Director General's offices along Popo Road, or the Kisumu County Director's offices in Kisumu.

The public has been advised to submit oral or written comments or email their comments to the NEMA director general within the next 30 days from the day of publication.

"NEMA invites members of the public to submit oral or written comments within 30  days from the date of this publication to the Director-General, NEMA, to assist the Authority in the decision-making process for this project," the notice stated.

The announcement comes after the National Land Commission (NLC) reserved 46.6 acres of public land for public institutions for various projects.

In a gazette notice dated September 5, the commission's chairman, Gershom Otachi, said that 2.378 hectares of land in Kiambu have been reserved for Lari Vocational College for educational purposes.
