Kenya has dropped once again in the latest FIFA rankings despite a commendable performance at the Africa Nations Championships (CHAN).
The Harambee Stars dropped two spots from their July 2025 ranking of 109 to 111 in the most recent rankings, which were made public on Thursday.
The drop follows Kenya's elimination from the CHAN quarterfinals, including a penalty shootout loss to Madagascar.
Following the CHAN exit, the Harambee Stars suffered yet another devastating loss to The Gambia in the World Cup qualifying match, falling to them 3-1 at the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani.
Even though the Stars overcame Seychelles with a decisive 5-0 victory, the damage was already done because they are virtually guaranteed to miss out on the 2026 World Cup.
FIFA ranks the men's national football teams based on a variety of criteria, such as the strength of opponents and the significance of games played during a given time frame.
Generally speaking, nations that defeat more formidable opponents or whose victories have greater repercussions overall tend to rank higher.
Kenya is now back to where they were for most of the year as a result of the drop. In 2025, the country's only higher ranking came in July, when it came in at number 109.
Tanzania, which has been steadily improving in 2025, also fell four spots in the region. The Taifa Stars held a slightly higher position than Kenya at position 107 despite the significant decline.
Incredibly, Uganda rose six spots to 82nd place in the world rankings in the most recent ranking.
Morocco is still ranked as Africa's top team from the CAF region, which is not surprising given their victory at CHAN 2024.
Kenya is now ranked 28th in Africa after the drop, while Uganda is presently the 16th-best team on the continent.
