Kenya Met Warns Kenyans to Brace for Continued Cloudy Mornings in Nairobi, Rains in Kisumu, Mombasa

The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned of the continuous cloudy mornings in Nairobi and most parts of the country from September 19 to September 22.

In a notice by the department, showers and thunderstorms will be expected in the highlands both east and west of the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, and the Coast. 

According to weather predictions, regions in the highland east of the Rift Valley such as Nairobi will experience cloudy mornings breaking into sunshine with occasional showers. The temperatures will range from 6°C at night and 30°C during the day.

“Most of the country will enjoy sunny intervals, but areas around the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria, and the Coast will have occasional rainfall,” the report read.

The weatherman added that residents on the coastal region and the south-eastern lowlands will experience strong winds blowing from the South and Southeast with speeds above 25Knots.

Regions in the western highlands and Lake Victoria Basin will experience morning rains and afternoon thunderstorms throughout the week, with temperatures ranging between 9°C at night and 31°C during the day.

According to weatherman, Turkana and Samburu will be mostly sunny, though a few areas may receive light rain by Monday, with high temperatures of around 36 to 37°C during the day.

The department predicted that Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo will remain mostly hot and dry, with maximum temperatures reaching 37 to 38°C. A few showers are possible towards the weekend.

In Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, Taita Taveta and Kajiado, the condition will be sunny with a chance of showers in some part of the regions. 

The department stated that these counties will experience a temperature range of 31 to 34°C.

Weatherman added that regions such as Lamu, Kilifi, Mombasa and Kwale will experience showers in the morning and afternoon with a steady temperature of about 31°C.

Kenyans living in storm-prone areas are urged to remain alert and ensure that make use of daily forecasts from county meteorological offices.
