Litein Boys' High School has been closed indefinitely after students went on a destructive rampage, setting parts of the school on fire on Sunday night.

The unrest reportedly began after the administration denied the students an opportunity to watch the much-anticipated English Premier League match between Arsenal and Manchester City.

Sources within the school revealed that the students had requested to view the 90-minute match under the usual weekend entertainment schedule, a practice common in many boys' schools. However, the administration declined the request, triggering unrest among the learners.

The situation quickly escalated into a full-blown strike, with the students resorting to violence to express their anger towards the school administration.

In the aftermath, dormitories and classrooms were engulfed in smoke, with property worth millions of shillings destroyed.

According to videos and images circulating online, several school blocks were torched, leaving behind charred walls and debris.

Students are said to have overpowered security and police officers after switching off all lights in the compound, allowing them to carry out the destruction under the cover of darkness.

This is not the first time Litein Boys' High School has made headlines for unrest. The school has had a history of similar incidents, raising serious questions about student discipline, mental health, and the effectiveness of school leadership.

In July this year, chaos erupted at the school after students allegedly went on a rampage protesting over undercooked rice served during dinner.

According to a police report, the situation spiralled out of control following the evening meal, necessitating intervention by law enforcement as the students started damaging school property.

At the time, the incident was the second unrest at the institution in the past two years. In 2023, the school closed indefinitely in May after students went on a riot for an unclear reason.

During the 2023 unrest, students also destroyed school property such as the biometric systems, window panes, and vehicles in the school compound.

Investigations into the most recent incident have already been started by the school, education officials, and security teams.
