President William Ruto has purchased a bull for Ksh700,000 during an auction on the opening day of the Nairobi International Trade Fair at the Agricultural Society of Kenya(ASK) Jamhuri Showground, Nairobi.
The Head of State made the purchase on Wednesday, October 1, alongside Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja.
During the auction, Ruto placed the highest bid of Ksh700,000 for the Borana bull weighing 720 kilograms and no other bidder challenged his offer, thus securing him the prized bull.
This was not Ruto's first bid. Earlier placed Sh300,000 for a 655-kilogram Borana bull. Sakaja, however, outbid him and secured it at Sh500,000.
In another round, the president placed a bid of Sh400,000 for a 635-kilogram bull. However, he was out bided by Agriculture Principal Secretary Paul Ronoh with a Sh600,000 bid.
Kagwe also secured a 630-kilogram bull at Sh600,000.
Several exhibitors and visitors turned up for the trade fair, which ran from September 29 to October 5, 2025.
Many investors used the event to showcase innovations in agriculture, trade, and livestock farming.
Ksh1 Million Bull
This is not the first time Ruto has turned public heads for buying livestock at the highest prices or making big purchases.
On September 4, Ruto spent Ksh 1 million on a bull during a livestock auction in Mombasa, where Mombasa governor Abdulswamad Nassir and other leaders were in attendance.
Ruto initially lost out on three prized bulls, but had the last laugh by making a commanding bid of Ksh1 million for the most prized bull.
The first auction kicked off with Ruto placing a Ksh200,000 bid for a bull nicknamed Santa Ghetto. He was quickly overpowered by Principal Secretary for Livestock, Jonathan Mueke.
Mueke raised the bar to Ksh300,000 before Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya sealed the deal with a Ksh350,000 bid.
In another auction, a 5-year-old Boran breed bull weighing 775 kilograms was placed on bid. Ruto placed a bid of Ksh400,000 where another bidder raised a stake to Ksh450,000, while Nassir made away with with the bull after placing a Ksh500,000 bid.
On the third auction for a 3-year-old bull weighing 527 kg, Ruto was challenged with only two bids and auction closed quickly at Ksh300,000.
In the last round, where three year old Chianina bull weighing 885kg was on offer, Amason Kingi opened the bid at Ksh300,000, Ruto followed with Ksh 400,000 bid. Nassir’s made an offer of Ksh 00,000.
Kingi made a comeback with another bid of Ksh550,000, Nassir came in with another offer of Ksh600,000 before Ruto ended the negotiation with a Ksh1 million offer.
